  • I play MARCA Cane Reeds and also recommend Legere Synthetic Reeds.
  • I have played many mouthpieces over the years and in addition to the ones I regularly play I also like Jody Jazz mouthpieces, vintage Guardala mouthpieces on tenor as well as Charles Bay and SR Tech mouthpieces - these are all very good mouthpieces.
  • As for saxophone exercises - I have spent a lot of time with long tones and also harmonics. I think that these really improve sound and control.

      • A lot of people ask me about the differences between the different P. Mauriat Models. Here's my general opinion:
        • Vintage Dark Lacquer
          • Darker sound
          • more focused
          • great for classical & jazz
        • Vintage Dark Lacquer with Rolled tone holes
          • A little fatter
          • More open but less focused
          • I love this horn! A good big, dark jazz horn
        • Nickel Silver
          • Full and even
          • A little bit more brightness than the vintage
          • Very luxurious sound
          • Great for all styles from classical to contemporary jazz
        • Black Laquer Nickel Silver
          • Just a touch darker and slightly more focused than the regular Nickel Silver model.
