- I play MARCA Cane Reeds and also recommend Legere Synthetic Reeds.
- I have played many mouthpieces over the years and in addition to the ones I regularly play I also like Jody Jazz mouthpieces, vintage Guardala mouthpieces on tenor as well as Charles Bay and SR Tech mouthpieces - these are all very good mouthpieces.
- As for saxophone exercises - I have spent a lot of time with long tones and also harmonics. I think that these really improve sound and control.

- A lot of people ask me about the differences between the different P. Mauriat Models. Here's my general opinion:
- Vintage Dark Lacquer
- Darker sound
- more focused
- great for classical & jazz
- Vintage Dark Lacquer with Rolled tone holes
- A little fatter
- More open but less focused
- I love this horn! A good big, dark jazz horn
- Nickel Silver
- Full and even
- A little bit more brightness than the vintage
- Very luxurious sound
- Great for all styles from classical to contemporary jazz
- Black Laquer Nickel Silver
- Just a touch darker and slightly more focused than the regular Nickel Silver model.
